MEXICO: Church joins fight against crime in Guerrero

The inability of state or federal forces to tackle increasing violent crime in Mexico’s southwestern state of Guerrero has prompted some sectors of society to take matters into their own hands. In February Catholic priests and bishops from dioceses across Guerrero revealed they had acted as intermediaries to try and broker truces between local criminal groups, with varying degrees of success.
