Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro conducted a mini reshuffle this week which saw the most independent-minded technocrat left in the cabinet sidelined and close allies promoted. Alejandro López, a former senator for the left-wing Polo Democrático Alternativo (PDA), takes over as the new director of planning (DNP). He replaces Jorge Iván González, who had survived previous shake-ups despite signing a letter criticising Petro’s health reform.
