In brief: Vehicle sales, exports, and production rise in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has announced that 113,258 light vehicles were sold in the domestic market in February, representing an 11.1% increase in yearly terms. According to Inegi, 625,804 light vehicles were produced between January and February, up 8.6% from the previous year. During that period, 536,975 units were exported, marking a 14.6% increase. Light trucks represented 75.8% of total production, while the rest is attributed to automobile manufacture. In the first two months of 2024, 225,357 units were sold, up 14.8% on the same period of 2023. In its report, Inegi noted a year-on-year decrease of 81.2% in exports by the Mexican branch of German carmaker Audi from January-February. The Audi plant in the San José Chiapa municipality of Puebla state was hit by industrial action from 24 January to 18 February.
