In brief: Mexico’s unemployment rate edges down

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published new employment figures showing that the unemployment rate of the economically active population - comprised of people aged 15 and over who are either employed or seeking employment – was 2.9% in January 2024, equalling 1.7m people. This represents a decrease of 75,000 people or 0.1 percentage points since January 2023. In seasonally adjusted monthly terms, the unemployment rate showed no variation.
