In brief: Brazilian food company BRF posts net loss

*Brazilian food processing company BRF has released its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2023, posting a quarterly net loss of R$754m (US$152m) and an annual net loss of R$1.87bn in 2023. The annual net loss for 2023 is lower than the loss of R$3.14bn registered for 2022. Despite the negative result, the food producer highlighted in its report a strong performance for its products in international markets, pointing out that it entered 66 new licences for markets in Latin America, Asia, Europe, and Africa in 2023. Regarding the company’s sustainability agenda, the report stated that scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions have dropped by 26% compared to the 2019 base year. In 2023, the company said that it had achieved 100% traceability for its grains directly produced in the Amazon and Cerrado biomes and reached 77% traceability for indirect suppliers.
