*The port authority of Paranaguá, located in Brazil’s southern state of Paraná, has announced that three of its berths have re-opened, following fires which broke out on 23 February, causing operations in the berths to be temporarily halted. The ships docked in two of the affected berths (212 and 213) were unmoored as a precaution, and no casualties have been reported. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fires. According to figures released by the national waterway regulator (Antaq) earlier this month, Paranaguá was the port that registered the third highest export volume in 2023 for agricultural products, exporting 18.7m tonnes (t) of maize and soya, behind the 44.8m t exported from the port of Santos in São Paulo state and the 20.2m t from the port of Itaqui in Maranhão state.
