Andrés Manuel López Obrador has celebrated the country’s economic performance after the national statistics institute (Inegi) released figures showing economic growth of 3.2% in 2023 and a drop in inflation in the first half of February. According to Inegi’s latest monthly global indicator of economic activity (IGAE), the economy grew by 2.1% year-on-year in December 2023, bringing growth for the year to 3.2%. In monthly terms, the IGAE showed no variation in December. Inegi also released its latest figures on the consumer price index, showing that inflation stood at -0.10% in the first two weeks of February as compared to the previous two weeks, bringing the annual rate to 4.45%. This compares to
monthly inflation of 0.89% in January, when the annual rate stood at 4.88%.
