In brief: Telecoms giant Telefónica’s profits rise in Brazil

*The Brazilian subsidiary of Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica, which owns mobile phone operator and network provider Vivo, has released its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2023, posting quarterly profits of R$1.60bn (US$324.69m) and annual profits of R$5.03bn for 2023. The quarterly result marks an increase of 42.1% compared to Q4 2022, while the annual result is up 23.1% from the previous year. Telefónica Brasil highlighted that its fibre broadband business has expanded, as 443 cities in Brazil have access to its network, marking an increase of 34 cities from Q4 2022. A total of 6.2m households in Brazil have access to Telefónica’s fibre to the home (FTTH) networks, up 12.6% compared to the final quarter of 2022.
