In brief: Brazil’s agricultural exports up in yearly terms

*Brazil’s agriculture ministry has released its latest monthly figures for the country’s agricultural exports, showing an export value of US$11.72bn in January, up from the US$10.21bn registered in January 2023. This latest export value also a marks record figure for the month of January and was mainly driven by a strong export volume registered for grains and sugar. Within the grains category, the soya export value hit a monthly record US$2.5bn and the export volume came to 2.85m tonnes (t) this January, up from the 839,590 t exported in January last year. Brazil’s largest trade partner, China, imported US$1bn of soya in January. The monthly export value for sugar products came to US$1.84bn, up 69.9% year-on-year. Sugar exports in January hit a record volume of 3.2m t. The accumulated export value for all agricultural products in the 12 months until January 2024 came to US$168bn, up 4.8% compared to the previous 12-month period.
