*The governments of Brazil and Egypt have signed two agreements which reduce restrictions on the export of Brazilian beef, pork, and poultry, and strengthen cooperation in science and technology. The agreements were signed during a visit by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Cairo, where he met with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The first agreement establishes an equivalence in meat inspection systems, known as ‘pre-listing’, which reduces bureaucratic hurdles for importers. The science and technology agreement aims to incentivise collaboration between Brazilian and Egyptian companies, universities, and research institutes via joint events, exchange programmes, and information sharing.
