In brief: Monthly inflation slows in Argentina but remains high

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest consumer price index for January which shows monthly inflation was 20.6%, down from 25.5% in December 2023. However the annual rate was 254.2% up from the 211.4% recorded in December, already the highest rate in decades. While the monthly rate reflects a slowdown it remains very high compared to previous months November (12.8%), October (8.3%), and September (12.7%). According to Indec, the steepest monthly price increases were for goods and services (+44.4%), transport (+26.3%), and communication (+25.1%).
