*The governments of Colombia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in which they agreed to cooperate on the development of artificial intelligence (AI). The MoU was signed by Colombia’s information & communications technology minister, Mauricio Lizcano, and the UAE’s artificial intelligence minister, Omar Sultan Al Olama, during a trip by Lizcano to the UAE. It states that Colombia will establish a committee of experts on AI and identify the necessary infrastructure, skills, and finance to develop the country’s AI capabilities. The UAE will act in an advisory capacity, with Lizcano saying that the goal is for Colombia to become “an AI hub for the whole of Latin America”.
