In January Nicaragua’s official gazette published changes to the country’s constitution which weaken the judiciary. Like all other institutions in the country, the judiciary is controlled by the authoritarian Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) government led by President Daniel Ortega, serving as a key tool in its crackdown on dissent.
