*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released figures on industrial manufacturing and construction in December 2023, which showed significant yearly drops in both industrial production (-12.8%) and construction (-12.2%). In monthly terms, industrial production was down 5.4% while construction dropped by 8.8%. In December, 14 of the 16 divisions making up industrial production registered yearly declines, with Indec highlighting the impact of drops in machinery & equipment (-36.3%), food & drink (-7.8%), and basic metal industries (-25.4%). In the construction sector, only the ceramic floor & wall tiles category saw a yearly increase (+6.8%), with 11 categories registering a decline – asphalt (-51.0%) being the biggest – and hollow bricks registering no change on the previous year.
