*Costa Rica’s central bank (BCCR) has released new figures which show that the country posted 5.1% GDP growth in 2023 and forecasts that GDP growth will average 4% in 2024/2025. In its report, the BCCR hails a reduction in the current account deficit influenced by the “notable development of exports of goods from free zones and some agricultural activities, a bounce in tourism and attraction of direct investment.” The BCCR reported that the current account deficit for the balance of payments was 1.4% of GDP in 2023, 2.3 percentage points less than in 2022.
