COLOMBIA: Foreign minister suspended

Colombia’s foreign minister, Álvaro Leyva, was handed a three-month suspension on 24 January by the inspector general’s office, which is responsible for overseeing the conduct of public officials. Leyva’s suspension owes to alleged irregularities in a tender for a contract to print passports, which he declared void after just one company – the multinational Thomas Greg & Sons, which was already producing Colombian passports – submitted a bid.
