In brief: Brazil’s annual tax take decreases in real terms

 *The tax authority of Brazil’s government, Receita Federal do Brasil (RFB), has released its latest tax revenue figures, showing a total national tax take of R$2.32trn (US$468bn) for 2023. This marks an increase of 4.49% in nominal terms from the R$2.22trn collected in 2022, but the annual variation in real terms showed a slight decrease of 0.12%. Most of the country’s total tax revenue was collected by the RFB (R$2.20trn), which marks a 5.68% annual increase in nominal terms and a 1.02% rise in real terms. However, the revenue collected by other authorities, such as state and municipal administrations, came to R$113.69bn, down 14.2% in nominal terms from the R$132.50bn collected in 2022 and marking a drop of 17.97% in real terms.
