HAITI: A country seemingly without hope

After much prevarication over many months from the international community on how to respond to the multifaceted security and political crisis in Haiti, in October the United Nations (UN) Security Council (UNSC) did vote to send a Kenya-led international security support mission to the highly distressed country. However, it seems that February is the earliest that the force will be deployed (there have been legal challenges to the deployment in the Kenyan courts), and in the meantime the situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate, from terrible to even worse, as highlighted in two recent UN reports.
