In brief: Ecuador announces investment in electricity infrastructure

*Ecuador’s energy & mining ministry has announced that President Daniel Noboa’s government will invest US$516m in electricity distribution infrastructure and public lighting. The works will be partially funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica). The government has announced plans for 165 electricity sub-transmission projects, 1,173 electricity distribution projects, and 1,083 public lighting projects. Ecuador has been struggling with energy shortages in recent months due to low water levels at hydroelectric power stations, which has forced the introduction of scheduled blackouts in part of the country.
