In brief: Nicaragua’s central bank president upbeat on growth

*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) president, Ovidio Reyes, has revealed that Nicaragua’s economy grew 6% in the final quarter of 2023 year-on-year, bringing annual growth last year to 4.5%. Speaking in a TV interview on state-run television channel Canal 4, Reyes said that the BCN was forecasting growth of 4% this year. The latest (14 December) forecast from the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) however predicts Nicaragua’s GDP growth was 3.3% in 2023, which it expects to drop to 2.9% in 2024.
