*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released a report showing that Argentina registered a trade deficit of US$6.93bn in 2023, compared to a surplus of US$6.92bn in 2022. According to the report, Argentina’s exports totalled US$66.79bn in 2023, down 24.5% on the previous year, while imports totalled US$73.71bn, down 9.6% on 2022. The same report showed figures for December, which registered a trade surplus of US$1.02bn, with exports totalling US$5.27bn (down 13.8% year-on-year) and imports totalling US$4.26bn (down 15.2% year-on-year).  In 2023, Brazil was Argentina’s main export destination, accounting for US$11.87bn or 17.8% of exports, followed by the US (US$5.65bn or 8.5%), China (US$5.27bn or 7.9%), and Chile (US$4.95bn or 7.4%). Brazil was also the main importer, accounting for US$17.35bn or 23.5% of imports, followed by China (US$14.50bn or 19.7%), and the US (8.63bn or 11.7%).
