Lenín Moreno, the presidential candidate for Ecuador’s ruling left-wing Alianza País (AP), opted to take part in the second presidential debate on 5 February. Moreno, who skipped the first debate on moral grounds, appears to have had a change of heart after opinion polls indicated that he was losing support ahead of the general elections on 19 February.
