The campaigning period for the Chile’s 23 October municipal elections have officially kicked off. With President Michelle Bachelet’s popularity at an all-time low, the contest will serve as the latest test for her and the ruling leftist Nueva Mayoría coalition – comprising the quadripartite Concertación coalition and the Partido Comunista de Chile (PCCh) – ahead of next year’s general elections.
