Development: On 17 January Mexico’s national electoral institute (INE) released its first preliminary rapid-count vote tally (Prep) on the extraordinary gubernatorial elections held in the state of Colima that same day, which gave the candidate of the nationally ruling Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), José Ignacio Peralta Sánchez, a three-percentage point lead over his main rival from the right-wing opposition Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), Jorge Luis Preciado.
