Diplomatic tensions spark trade spat in Hispaniola

A unilateral decision by the Haitian government to ban the import of 23 Dominican products via its land borders starting next month drew a strong reaction from the Dominican Republic (DR), which recalled its ambassador for consultations. Many link the unexpected announcement with continued bilateral diplomatic tensions over the repatriation of thousands of Haitian migrants from the DR following the close of the DR’s migrant regularisation and naturalisation programme.
