Haiti - seeking to dispel doubts ahead of October elections

In recent weeks various members of the international community, including the US and Organisation of American States (OAS), have strongly insisted that the 25 October national legislative second round and presidential first elections in Haiti should go ahead as planned. The international backing for the electoral process is in response to recent developments which have left major question marks over both the 9 August first round election (for two-thirds of the 30-seat national senate and the newly expanded 118-seat lower chamber of congress) as well as the upcoming votes.
