Development: The last opinion polls ahead of Uruguay’s 26 October general elections were released on 22 October with most suggesting that former president Tabaré Vázquez (2005-2010), the candidate for the ruling Frente Amplio (FA) leftist coalition, and Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou, the candidate of the centre-right opposition Partido Nacional (PN, Blancos), are likely to fall short of outright victory, taking the contest to a second round ballot in November.
