GUATEMALA: Judicial vacancies filled

Thelma Aldana, a former supreme court president (2011-2012), has been appointed as Guatemala’s new attorney general, following the controversial February 2014 ruling by the constitutional court (CC) cutting short the mandate of the former AG, the human rights activist Claudia Paz y Paz [RC-14-03]. Also making headlines was the appointment of the new electoral court (TSE), which will oversee the next 2015 general elections.
