Ecuador’s CNE rejects YASunidos petition

Development: On 6 May the president of Ecuador’s national electoral authority (CNE), Domingo Paredes, said the CNE had invalidated almost 400,000 of the over 700,000 signatures submitted by the advocacy group YASunidos in support of a public referendum on the controversial exploitation of the country’s biggest remaining untapped oil reserve, the Ishpingo-Tambococha-Tiputini (ITT) fields located in the Yasuní national park and indigenous territory.
