HONDURAS: Faintest glimmer of hope in murder stats

The most optimistic reading of the latest statistics on violent crime in Honduras is that in 2011-12 the number of intentional homicides appeared to have reached a plateau. This, however, has not made a difference to its standing as the most violent country in the region, at a level more than eight times higher than the threshold at which a homicide rate begins to be considered ‘epidemic’. Other indicators suggest that the climate of insecurity is actually worsening.
