PERU: Humala besieged

The government led by President Ollanta Humala is facing political pressure on various fronts. The most obvious one is the social unrest flaring up around the country, which has already resulted in the departure of a number of ministers in the government’s scarce eleven months in office. In addition, the government’s repression of social protests has also produced serious divisions within the Gana Perú coalition that brought President Humala to power.
