The forum: the parallel social summit held alongside the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly in Cochabamba, Bolivia, between 3 and 5 June. The purpose: to portray Latin America’s ‘progressive’ left-wing governments as victims of hostile and powerful interest groups controlling the media and intent on sabotaging their agenda for revolutionary change. The ulterior motive: to justify steps to reduce the accountability of these governments by constraining sources of criticism.
