Colombia intends to ship 50% more natural gas to its next-door neighbour, Venezuela, this year,
Energy Minister Mauricio Cárdenas announced in Caracas on 18 May. Cárdenas was in the Venezuelan capital with his regional counterparts for the third meeting of the South American Energy Council, one of the talkshops set up under the new Union of South American Nations (Unasur). Colombia currently sends about 200 million cubic feet (mcf) of natural gas per day to Venezuela, and this will rise to to 300mcf in September, Cárdenas said. "The supply of Colombian gas to Venezuela is going to increase, as will the flow of Venezuelan fuel to Colombia”, he added.
