BRAZIL: Decline of the PSDB in São Paulo

The centre-right Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) was once a political powerhouse in Brazil’s largest city, São Paulo. However, all the PSDB’s councillors in the São Paulo city council have broken ranks with the party. Meanwhile, the party confirmed the membership of TV presenter José Luiz Datena, who has been floated as a potential running mate for Tabata Amaral, a federal deputy affiliated with the centre-left Partido Socialista Brasileiro (PSB), who is currently polling in third place ahead of the São Paulo mayoral election this October.
