ECUADOR: Noboa acknowledges resurging violence

Nearly three months after he ordered a nationwide military deployment in response to an unprecedented uprising by criminal gangs, Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa can attribute his sky-high approval ratings almost entirely to improved public security [WR-24-09]. As Noboa acknowledged this week, however, there are signs that criminal gangs are now returning to their usual activities after weeks of lying low.
