The crime issue

Rising concern over crime has presented the new government with both a challenge and an opportunity. The promise of a major crackdown on drug trafficking and other criminal activities figured prominently in Milei’s election campaign. Patricia Bullrich, the unsuccessful Juntos por el Cambio (JxC) first round presidential candidate and a former security minister, had also promised tough new anti-crime measures as part of her campaign. Her decision, alongside others in her PRO party, to form a coalition with Milei’s LLA and once more become the security minister, therefore set the scene for a new approach.
