In brief: Guyana inks solar plants deal with Chinese firm

*Guyana’s government has announced the signing of a US$38m contract to construct solar farms between Chinese solar technology company Sumec and the Guyana Utility-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (Guysol) programme, an initiative financed by the Norwegian government to the tune of US$83.3m. According to the Guyanese government the new projects are being funded through the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund established by the government and managed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Guyana’s finance minister, Ashni Singh, stated that the project will result in a total of 18 megawatts (MW) of solar power being distributed.
