Introduction

The first article in this March 2024 issue of the Latin American Regional Report: Mexico looks into recent media reports that have explored potential links between the administration of Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and drug trafficking organisations (DTOs). The reports have threatened to sour US-Mexico relations at a time when the US administration of President Joe Biden is counting on Mexico’s support in stemming migration flows and tackling fentanyl trafficking ahead of this year’s elections.
