In brief: Industrial production up in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has published the latest data for its monthly index of industrial activity (Imai), showing that industrial production increased by 0.4% in monthly terms in January. Construction increased by 2.2% and manufacturing industries by 0.2%. Meanwhile, activity decreased by 0.4% in mining and by 0.8% in utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas). In seasonally adjusted annual terms, industrial production rose by 1.9% in January 2024 compared to the same month of 2023, with construction up by 17.9% and utilities by 0.5%. Production in the manufacturing industries dropped by 1.4% in annual terms, while mining fell by 1.8%.
