In brief: Brazil’s monthly trade surplus up year-on-year

*Brazil’s ministry of industry & trade has released its latest trade figures, showing a trade surplus of US$5.45bn in February, a record surplus for the month of February. This marks a 17.6% increase compared to the previous record for the month (February 2022) and is up 111.8% from February 2023. Brazil’s export value for February totalled US$23.54bn, up 16.3% from the same month in 2023. The monthly value for agricultural exports came to US$4.86bn, registering a yearly rise of 11.5%. Extractive industries registered a monthly export value of US$5.76bn, up 63.9% from February last year. In terms of export destinations, exports to Argentina fell by 30.0% year-on-year, registering an export value of US$940m in February. Exports to China, Hong Kong, and Macau in February registered a value of US$7.02bn, marking a yearly rise of 39.7%, while the export value to the US came to US$2.65bn, up 9.3% from last year.
