New leadership of the armed forces

Argentina’s armed forces has undergone a major shake-up following new decrees published on 2 January by the government led by President Javier Milei which replaced the commanding officers of the army, navy, and air force. Defence Minister Luis Petri has denied the changes represent an attempt to purge the armed forces of personnel with loyalties to the previous government, insisting that this was part of the Milei administration’s efforts to modernise the country’s military.
