* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the consumer price index (IPCA) for October, which showed a monthly inflation rate of 0.24%, bringing the annual inflation rate to 4.82%. The monthly inflation rate in October was down slightly on the 0.26%
registered in September, while the annual rate was down from 5.19%. This marks the fourth consecutive month of positive inflation, after deflation of -0.08% was
registered in June. Of the nine categories of products and services measured for the IPCA, eight saw a rise in prices in October. Monthly inflation was driven in large part by a 23.70% increase in the cost of air travel; Ibge research coordinator
André Almeida attributed this to various factors, including rises in the price of aviation fuel as well as the approaching holidays at the end of the year.
