* Peru’s transport and communications ministry (MTC) has announced that it has spent PEN260m (US$69.7m) on the purchase of 120 pieces of heavy machinery to ensure the road network’s resilience during the El Niño weather phenomenon. The MTC also said that it is purchasing modular bridges to quickly reopen transit routes following what is expected to be several months of heavy rainfall with widespread flooding and landslides.
