In brief: Cuba hit by widespread drought

* Cuba’s institute of meteorology (Insmet) has announced that 27% of the island was affected by drought from May-July 2023, due to a rainfall shortage impacting 62% of the national territory. The most affected provinces were Pinar del Río, Artemisa, La Habana, Mayabeque, and Matanzas. According to Insmet, over this period, 6% of the country experienced severe drought, 8% experienced moderate drought, and 13% experienced a slight drought.
