Temperatures soared across Mexico from 1 June, as the seasonal rains that typically usher in cooler weather in the middle of the month failed to arrive. Mexico’s national meteorological service (SMN) finally announced the end of the heatwave on 22 June. However, the SMN warned that the impact would not be immediate, with northern parts of the country in particular continuing to face temperatures of over 40ᵒC.
