* The Instituto Mexicano para la Competitividad (Imco), a think-tank based in Mexico City, has released its 2021 International Competitiveness Index report, in which Mexico is ranked 37^th out of 43 countries, two positions lower than in 2020. According to the report, the country regressed in five of the 10 indicators evaluated – environment, society, political system, international relations and innovation – while it only advanced in factor market and economy, and remained the same in law, governments, and precursors. The report highlighted health, clean energy, and connectivity as specific areas in which the gap between Mexico and the other countries evaluated is particularly stark. Imco also stressed the need to boost productivity and “generate well-being”, saying that this could only be achieved if the country is “consistently attractive to talent and investment.”
