* The Argentine government has formalised the creation of a new state entity that will be in charge of contracting firms to dredge the Paraná-Paraguay waterway, one of the main riverine transport corridors in South America. Back in July the Argentine government decided to place the section of the waterway that passes through its territory under state control after the concession awarded to a consortium led by Belgian firm, Jan de Nul, to maintain the waterway ended in May. But ahead of launching a new public tender process for a concession estimated to worth US$3.7bn, the
Alberto Fernández administration announced that it will create a new entity that will be exclusively dedicated to this and to ensuring that concession contracts are complied with. The Ente Nacional de Control y Gestión de la Vía Navegable has now formally been created after a decree to this effect was published in the official gazette.
