MEXICO: López Obrador takes aim at US

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador may have said that his government wants to maintain good relations with the US and even boasted that he has a good rapport with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. But this week the Mexican head of state was highly critical of US policy towards Latin America during a regional summit, warned fellow Latin American leaders against trusting Washington, and even sought to lecture Biden on US policy towards Cuba. All these comments may have been directed towards a specific audience, but they are unlikely to sit well with the Biden administration and are distinctly risky diplomatically.
