In brief: Strong tax take for Brazil this year

* Brazil’s Receita Federal tax authority has raised R$137.2bn (US$26.4bn) in taxes in June, a 46.77% increase on its tax collection in June 2020. Over the first six months of 2021, the Receita Federal raised R$881.9bn, up 24.5% on last year. These are the highest figures for both the month of June and the January-June period since the year 2000, and follow a period of sustained strong tax take. The Receita Federal special secretary, José Tostes, noted that the federal tax take has been increasing across almost all taxes and sectors, and hailed these figures as evidence of “a very solid and sustainable economic recovery”.
