Laurentino Coritzo has announced that Luxembourg-headquartered telecommunications firm, Millicom, a leading provider of fixed and mobile services in Latin America operating under the Tigo brand, will invest US$250m for the 2021-2022 period in modernising and expanding fixed and mobile networks in Panama, to benefit 800,000 Panamanians. A Millicom press release notes that among the investments discussed is the creation of Tigo’s Fintech Hub in Panama, and the expansion of mobile financial services for the entire region. The company plans to expand its coverage throughout the country, including the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Darién, Coclé, and the comarcas (indigenous administrative regions).
